Postcard Marketing

Postcards are perfect for artists, crafters, and jewelry designers that are looking for an effective and affordable way to promote their products.  Here are some benefits that postcards offer and ideas on how to make your postcards work for you.

Postcards are…

Cost effective - Postcards are less expensive to produce and print than other forms of promotional literature.  First class postage for a 4"x6" postcard is only 23¢. Postcards that are mailed first class and that are undeliverable are returned to you. If a new address is available, the post office will affix a yellow label with the updated information. The post office does not charge extra for this service. This allows you to keep your mailing list current.

Attention grabbers – Full color postcards get peoples attention. Your message is easily seen; there are no envelopes to open. Make an impression and show you work in full color.

Measurable  – By labeling your postcards with a promotional code, you can easily track the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns. Include discounts that can be redeemed at upcoming shows or on your website.

Versatile – Your postcards can be used in many different ways.  The same cards can be used for direct mail, as handouts at shows and events, as oversized business cards, and possibly even as product hangtags.

Postcards can be used to…

Promote your upcoming shows – Send postcards to prospects and customer that have visited you before. Let them know about shows in their area in which you will be exhibiting. If you will not be exhibiting in their area again, let them know that they can call or visit you online to make a purchase.

Present your work to wholesale buyers – If you are interested in selling to wholesale accounts, a unique and professional presentation is vital. You will likely be competing with many other businesses. A full color product catalog is nice, but very expensive to produce. Instead, send a postcard that shows you work in full color along with your sales materials and price lists. If you do offer a product catalog, you can pre-qualify your prospects with an inexpensive postcard

Help galleries promote your work – If your work is shown in galleries, you might offer the gallery promotional postcards to use as handouts. This will aid the gallery in promoting your work. In this case, your contact information should not be included on the card.

Run a seasonal promotion – You can script your messages and time you mailings to coincide with holidays and other gift giving occasions. For instance, you could do a mailing in April to promote a special “Mother’s Day Sale”. Rather than print separate cards for each promotion, leave a space where a label can be placed. The label would contain the details that are specific to your individual offer. This way you save on printing costs.

Introduce your new products and services – Are you doing anything new and exciting for 2005? Make sure your customers are up to speed on everything that you have to offer.  If you have new products, new services, or a new website, a postcard mailing is a great way to get the word out.

Keep in touch – Your customer list is one of your most valuable assets. Make sure to keep your customers informed - don't let them forget about you!
